Ecomm Final

Nathan Contreras 2019 senior year recap

short film

This project was our short film that I helped to make. Carson Bird was the director, script writer, and set designer. for this film I was an actor I also helped out a little bit with editing but Carson wanted his vision so I backed off a little. This project took about a week to write and a week to film and edit it went smoothly the second time we filmed it because on the first time the actors where not really prepared as well as we should have been so we remade the entire film and made some cuts so that the film would go smooth. I think that this film turned out really good because of the cinematic quality and also the scrip was really good. The only thing that I would change will be the fact that we where playing uno instead of a real card game.

camera assignment 1

This project was one of the first that we made this year and I think it turned out really good because the group that I was in was very talented with Mary porter as the script writer and the DP. I was lighting boom operator and helped with editing on this film. I was also an actor. this project took about 1 week to make the script and plan and then took 1 day to film and a week to edit which is one of the reason that it turned out soo good because we had allot of time to peer edit the video and make it fit the best. feedback that we where given was the black and white with no sound because we had a challenge along the way when we lost the SD card and had to redo the film or the better option was to make it with no sound so we went with plan B. Something that I would change would be the actors including me because I am not a good actor so it would look more professional if we got actors and not friends to play roles. But other than that I thought this film turned out exactly how we planned and it was allot of fun.

Comercial project

This was our second film that we made this year and it was easy one of the best that I was in. Mary Porter was the director DP and script maker. I was the gaffer, sound, and lighting. This film took a few days to come up with a script and then a day to film with almost like 2 weeks to edit. The more time you have to edit the better the film will be. challenges that we faced was that Marys car broke down on the way to our filming location because the car had a broken head gasket so the car was literally melting itself apart. but we got the film done then got home late. We learned that when you spend the time to go to good locations instead of doing the close non cinematic ones than that's when the film looks really good. I don't think that I would change anything in this film because I really liked the outcome. This film was definitely one of my most memorable and I made more friends in the class because of the events that happen on filming night.

In class I would say that this year I have been less productive but balanced. because when I have a project that I am apart of I will be over their helping ( if help is wanted ) but other than that I will be looking at videos on how edits are made or how to use the adobe software getting ready for the feature film.

My areas of strength are definitely editing because I just have a creative mind and can see differently than others in the class which is good because it adds different perspectives Into the film. And I am also really good with any of the adobe software. I just know how they all work and how to use them the right way and the most productively.

My areas of improvement I think need to be behind a camera because I have a creative mind its just I don't think I'm that good at taking action and leading a film to capture right image I am good at leading an edit tho. So I am going to try to get more comfortable with a camera.

I think that all the guest speakers where helpful to the class but the person that stood the most out to me was Morgan Cooper. He was a really nice guy with allot of knowledge about film production and his tips will definitely help me get the upper hand on this feature film. I also liked Ryann Burnetts tips on how to make the editing side of the feature film to go smoothly.

This year I am the post production head editor and I will bring allot of good information on how to smoothly edit and import/ export software because I have that prior knowledge. I am also really good at problem solving and making sure that the film is what the director sees inside of his head. I will execute this by getting to know all of the editors not in a classroom but on a personal level to find their skills and ideas on how to edit because they might bring even better perspectives into the film. I am looking forward to this year 100%.

I loved most about this semester was the people that I met and the films I helped to produce because they look really good on a portfolio and website reel and I am proud to say that I helped with that film unlike some of the other years. Something that I would do differently would be Carsons funny level. to try to bring that down and use real props instead of funny uno and 1 dollar bills on the table. this semester I learned how to make a good film and all the pre production and editing that goes into them to make a good one. as in the more time you spend editing and pre production the better it will be. A goal that I have for second semester is to lead a crew of editors to the best of my ability. My final thoughts Are that film is a passion of mine and I love this class and the people in this class wouldn't trade it for the world.

Entertainment Video Final

by: Nathan Contreras

These are the videos that I helped to work on through the semester in order form top to bottom shortfilm, music video, and commercial video.

"The Delivery"

The first project is our shortfilm about a delivery boy who gets caught in the wrong place at the wrong time because he becomes the witness of a murder. The murderers are part of the mob so they take him to the mob lair for interrogation and finally gets saved in the end. Its a story told in the perspective of the main character Lewis and supposed to be a comedically shortfilm.

"The Ballroom Blitz music video"

The second video is our music video, the music we chose was Ballroom Blitz by the Sweets and is supposed to portray a jail break heist theme because the music is fast paced and high action. This video was also supposed to be a funny one that could catch the attention of the viewer and keep them watching.

"HP Computer Comercial Video"

And finally the third video is our commercial video, Again supposed to show a fast paced run montage from the "enemy" than show that the computer within the video took to long "and thats why you should upgrade to the HP computers Faster and more reliable".

This Semester

I would say that all of the videos took around a week to setup with story boarding, locations, and scripts then filming for all of the videos took 1-3 days on an average to film with another 3-4 days of editing depending on if we could get everyone on site. Challenges faced through all of the videos would be film dates and actors I say this because this was the only problems that we ran into. For example we did not have actors for all of the videos that where reliable so thats why people from the group are also in the video which makes it hard if I am supposed to be the DP but also in the video. Than the only other real problem we came across was filming dated because people are very busy and have jobs and other commitments to keep, so not everyone was able to be on site every-time.

I learned that people have commitments so whenever making the scripts make sure that their schedules match up with the filming schedules so that the group can be very productive and not just "winging the video and edits" like on the first HP commercial the main actor did not communicate well so we had the director as the main character because we had to improvise.

Feed back that was given is sorta similar through all videos being, Nice shots, smooth editing, and very cinematic. especially on our last video "The Delivery" because on this video we had everything go smoother than normal so we where able to get really good detail and matched the story board almost exactly.

Something that I would personally change would be the locations because I feel like they worked but could've been better. For example I had to drive almost and hour away and hour back which is not bad but we could've done closer because I suggested maybe a group of robbers robbing a house instead of a factory, this would've been sayer to get to and sayer to portray their robbing someone. and also maybe take valuables instead of candy in the final cut because to me it seemed a bit childish for such a great film to end with the heist stealing candy instead of the diamonds. But other than that I think all of the videos were nice and showed the message well.

Time in class

I think that in the beginning of the year I was allot more productive when using time in class by working on video graphics ahead of schedule but now words the end of the semester I haven't really been doing that  but I have been staying ahead of the game at home instead of in class. Because with this new project I am the VFX editor so whenever I have absolute nothing to do I have been researching how to make some cool effects that I think can fit in the film. Also at home I have worked on some simple adobe aftereffect clips to recreate the VFX I saw in the video.

Strengths and Improvements

I think that one of my strengths are seeing the video or the ideas within my head which helps whenever we are filming and allowed for some more creative ideas through the video and somewhere that would need improvements really bad would be making scripts because I don't like making scripts but I like the recording and editing aspects of making a video not the scripting parts. even though that the script is one of the most important parts of developing a solid video so thats why I need to improve on script writing.

Three guest speakers

1.) Drew Connors- I actually know him from marching band and we have became good friends because we share some of the same interest and play video games together but other than that Drew gave a presentation about how to further develop the characters when making a script or really anything. He said that characters can not be the perfect balance of charisma, power, and like ability because than you make a superman, so their needs to some imbalance within this chart and the villain needs to be the exact polar opposite.

2.) Brandon Preist- came in and talked about how the twenty-first century students can market themselves to find client work and selling items using all social media platforms by marketing they are the millennials and know how to use the social media better than any other business to get client work and other forms of "getting their foot inside the door" and making those connections.

3.) For some reason I cannot remember who Gordon Lamb is I am thinking that this person came in whenever it was one of the 16 days I have been home sick with a stomach virus. so I do not remember anything about Gordon Lamb.

Summary

I loved most about this semester is meeting new friends that share the same interest as me and love to create videos either for fun or for a specific reason, just depends. something I would do differently would be not get a stomach virus if possible because that made it really really hard to come to school and even harder to go to a location and film. I have learned allot this semester on how to develop a good feature, music, and commercial video and all the different steps in making them successful. One goal for next semester is to be more successful in showing the message this semester.

Music Video

Music Video Blog

<----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->

Our concept for the music video was to make a fast paced street race, getaway, with a bank heist tone of video. we wanted to have something fast paced because we thought that everyone else would have a slower romantic video so our group wanted too catch the viewers attention and keep them engaged with whats happening on the screen. Something else that our group wanted to do was add some form of comedy into the video so that people would want to watch instead of having to watch. The song that we chose was Ball Room Blitz By The Sweet, our idea behind this music is that their is not much words and its was fast pace. the music not having any words helped us because we did not have to memorize and lip synch anything accept for a few words in the beginning.

The process behind making this video first started off with the ideas, so we allot together and started to give ideas. I think that everyone on my group wanted to have the fast paced music video so their was no issue with trying to convince people to change their ideas. Carson already had a list of music ideas and we created the beat sheet to Ballroom Blitz because that was a unanimus decision. we then worked on the story boards while still coming up with ideas George and Spence Sid that they would use their cars and be actors. I recently got a new car which is the 350z in the video. But their was a problem with this, I was the cinematogropher and I was not going to let anyone be behind the wheel of my car 1 because I don't want anyone to wreck it and 2 I would lose the car because thats my parents rule, so this caused a problem because the group wanted to have my car in the video which lead to Carson the only one behind camera.

something that I learned along the way was to go to party city or a costume shop to get supplies. I went to party city and got masks based on car color and personality, I think that getting the props like the diamonds and the masks helped be even better than it could have been. technical skills where all used during this production because everyone become really good friends so we stopped if someone didn't like that idea so we reassessed the situation to fix the problems, we also had a group chat and communicated the ideas and the locations allot better than the last video team I was in.

Something that I would do the same is be with this group. I say this because the group all had diverse ideas so we made something that we all liked instead of someone in the group not lining the ideas and not participating like last time. Something that I would do different would be change the candy too stacks of cash and diamonds so that it would be really good and not feel like a high school film it would feel a lot more professional than what it became. Although we did use the diamonds that I bought too add some comedy into the video. The other big thing that I did not like in the video Is that I am really really short compared to everyone else and I know their is nothing that I can do about my height but we could-have hired a taller actor too make it look better.

experiences That I would gather is go and get some good props for the videos and too hire some actors instead of having the group as the actors this way we could've all been behind the camera and shared thoughts on that instead of letting the video turn into a high school video words the end.

Comercial Blog

Hp Commercial Blog

By: Nathan Contreras

Our groups project was a HP computer, and it was supposed to be a MacBook Pro but stuff happens so we had to improvise to an HP computer in the final. our concept was that someone is running with a computer with "important information" on the computer, the protagonist is supposed to be running from the antagonist and when he gets to the end of the roof the protagonist is supposed to hit upload and the computer does not work. so then we where going to have a voiceover that says "don't be like this guy upgrade to a MacBook Pro today"this way it would show that the HP computer  cannot upload as fast as the MacBook their the MacBook is better.

Process that our group went through in making this commercial, Carson and I did not really like the original idea of having the computer in a school environment so then we started to brainstorm after school when Carson the next day Brough the final idea to the group the next day. Skai worked on the story board and drew out all of the shots, as a group I do not remember making the script but Carson printed them out and brought them on site so I don't really know who did the script. I was assigned the editor in the beginning but could not see the image in my head like Carson so Carson took over the Editor and I took the role of the cinematographer, I would say that him and I both did edits on the video but I only helped when he needed.

Professionally the group that I was in was really good at keeping everyone up to date and on track except for a couple of days that did not workout for everyone in the group so we got behind schedule. I shared my ideas and so did the rest of the group so we where on track and never really got off track. project management was ok besides the two days that because we had a group chat witch allowed us to add dates that worked for everyone in the group.

something that I would do different would be, being able to go to the last film day. I was not able to make it on the last day scheduled because an emergency came up 30 min before film time. something that I would do the same is have Carson in my group because Carson is really good at filming and making good ideas which was important to being successful. I liked this project and think that it was awesome if you consider the problems that we ran into but I know some people do not like it so if we could've finished the video and make the ending more clear that would've been better. Finishing the ending is the only thing that a could'e been better.

Captured

Short Film Blog Post

Our short film was tilted Captured, it was written by Thomas Rex and directed by Cade Walkins Captured is a about two boys, one of them being a jock and the other is a normal middle schooler. The synopsis is that the normal middle schooler saves the jock even thought the jock is mean to him on a daily basis. The boys are captured by a recently released prisoner. The everyday middle schooler has one of two options, save the person that is mean to him or let him be killed.

we included key elements of filming with the locations, shots, and actors because our group chose all of these locations and actors very well and the entire project came together perfectly. During pre production the group decided to go with Thomases story because it was the best one that was not easy but gave us a challenge. My job was to draw the story boards according to the directors visions. our production schedule was during the weekend and film from 7 in the morning to 2 in the after noon starting at Cades house ending at mine. I learned along this project by watching Thomas and Cade because I think that both of them are really good at filming and so I watched them while we where setting up the cameras. During this project my group used the 5 guarantees perfectly because everyone communicated and everyone participated unlike some of the projects I've been in. something that I would do differently is reshoot some of the shots when the actors would over exaggerate things. If I could I would do everything the same because I think this was the best project all year.

bouncing balls

Bouncing Balls Animation

This animation was different from all of the other animations because we had to first record the real world ball falling and bouncing back up, this was important because after we have the actual balls recorded we marked the keyframes and height of the balls in a google docs sheet. Then we went onto Maya and replicated the spread sheet so the animated balls are exactly the same as the recorded ones, this was really interesting to me because it was combining the real world with a animation, if that makes sense. We had to make the balls relatively the same size as the recording bot to make the balls we used a image from the internet and turned that into a bump map. This animation was also one of my worst because I missed allot of days this project and set me behind a long time, the other problem that I had was restarting the entire project three times because Maya would crash and not save. Then on the day I would render Maya would not render correctly so I spent a total of two day rendering this animation 6 times before it would save correctly. but I still liked how it turned out even with me rushing the entire project.

High School Trailer Blog Post

High School Trailer Blog Post

The trailer that my Group and I chose to replicate was Say Anything. Out of all the options on the list to replicate my group was a unanimous decision that Say Anything was a trailer that could be replicated without a budget. We incorporated the key elements of filmaking into this video by getting all the necessary shots, by that I mean whenever their was a wide, close up, extreme wide, and body shot in the actual trailer we made sure to get the clip as close as possible to the real thing. The processes I contributed to in pre-production was storyboards, production schedule, and editing. These where the main things that I would do, but whenever someone needed me I would help them.

My main role in the processes was director of photography, however if we where on site and someone  with a different role the rest of us would take over the needed parts and spread roles. Technically I was behind camera a good amount of the time and we all edited our on trailers so editing was the other thing that I did technically. I think that everyone in this group used the five guarantees, unlike some of my other projects, the five guarantees I worked on the most is communication, collaboration, and project management. I say this because I, collaborated with the entire team to get the best product possible and project management I used to get the props, like the car and some locations.

Something that I would do differently is filming in better locations instead of inside of the e-comm pod, because we filmed in the e-comm pod some of the shots jumped form past to 2018 witch did not make the video smooth and not as good as it could've been. If I had the choice I would try to get into a group with Thomas again, because Thomas was a really good director and leader. Experiences that I will use in the next projects is to film in the same time period throughout the video and to get better audio than what was used. My general thoughts about this video is that the high school trailer project went very well and well made.

Container animation

Container Animation

things that I learned durning this animation are how to use the revolve tool, shape, and add a label to the container. what we had to do durning this animation was create a label in adobe photoshop then put this label onto the container and make a product. This animation did not go as smooth for me compared to the others because I had to restart the entire project three times witch was very tedious and a wast of time. so I guess I learned that I should look at the directions a little closer that was I don't ae to redo the entire project and just do it right the first time. The actual animation part of this project was really easy, it was just rotating the object so that wasn't anything really new. The other thing that was not that new bit we haven't done in a while was sketching because we had to sketch the container before turning it into a polygon in a real thing.

Snow Flake Animation

Snowflake Animation Blog

This is a animation of snowflakes falling, outside the window. During this animation we learned allot of new things that we haven't done before, like making the snow flake you have make a polygon on the x-axis line then mirror the flake, then special duplicate the two, that way it ends up being a six sided snow flake. This was something that was new to us and was very different then the other methods. Once we got the one dimensional flake we extruded and rounded the flake to make it three dimensional. Making the window seal was really easy and was like the other projects we made, but this time we put the inside window into a one dimensional polygon and made it transparent to look like a window. After we did all this random stuff, we went back to the normal three point lighting and batch rendering.

salt shaker and cup

Cup & Shaker

modeling

Modeling these two things was very different than the other things that we have learned to use for example we had to draw the design of the cup in a 2d plane then use a tool that makes the 2d image into a 3d object, its kinda like when potters use the rotating table and shape their clay into something just this was using maya. The salt shaker designed a different way, basically we had to create a 3d skeleton of the salt shaker and use a took that would automatically make the skeleton into a actual body of the salt shaker. then the final part of the modeling process was using the vertex points to touchup the designs.

shading

we then used shading to give the 3d designs a realistic aspect for example I made the cup silver because I was reminded of a silver challis and on top of the salt shaker I made it look like metal and the body a bliyn shade so that it would not reflect as much light. I think that the shading was a lot better on this project than the last one because I had a better understanding on how the shading worked in Maya.

3-pt lighting

3-pt lighting is the most important park of making a 3d object look realistic because the three lights all work together to make it look like it is a real object. the three lights are the spotlight, fill light, and backlight. spotlight make the majority of the object visible and the fill light fills in parts that otherwise would not bee seen and the back light is used to give some color to parts of the object that would not be seen at all and lights up small but important details.

Hammer

Hammer

Modeling

Modeling the hammer took almost two days because it was really complicated and most people did not know how to make the hooks on the backs. but other than that to model the hammer you have too make a square and then extrude the front and beck of the hammer, then go into vertex mode instead of face then slowly shape it until it looks like a hammer witch took some time but was really easy once you got the hang of it. The front of the hammer was really easy because it was just extruding and scaling.

Shading

We are supposed to add shading to the hammer so that is looks more like a 3D figure and helps add dimensions into the hammer and makes the final product look really good and well made. and plus the shading adds shadows to the hammer and on the ground so it can make it look like the hammer is resting on the ground instead of floating in the air.

3-pt lighting

Three point lighting is also used to make the hammer or the object look more 3 dimensional, in three point lighting you have to have the key-light, back light, and the fill light. The key light lights up the entire project, but that does not make the object look that good so you off the backlight to light upon things that are not seen on its own. so the final light is the fill light witch fills up some of the darkness in the animation.

Exploring Video Final

Exploring Video Final

feature story

ONW 1 in 2000 project goal was to interview someone that our group decides that had the most interesting Summer. This happened to be me because I went to china for a Summer vacation with my family. this projects took around a week to film and edit, and then re-edit, but our group had a difficult time with the audio not recording on the first take, witch costed us one day of editing. challenges that we faced was the audio not recording, that was the major problem. but then there was one problem that I had with the film because it became corrupted and I had to restart the intro witch was a difficult challenge. Feed back that I was given, was whenever their is a transition the lighting effects did not look as smooth as they could've. whenever it was re edit day I applied the same effects to all of the video and added some B roll to scenes where there is a transition. My opinion of this project, I loved this project mostly because I got to be interviewed and I liked the effects I put on the intro.

feature story #2

This project was the future story #2, its the same concept as #1 but over a different topic, in this case the topic is about the 2017 marching band. I cannot remember how long this video took but my best guess is that it took a week to film and edit like all the other projects. challenges that my group faced was that miles and I both where in the marching band for early morning rehearsals so we could not get any B roll that we filmed, so we took some from the servers. something that ai learned is how to use key framing better than I have been, because the thought the video their are allot of key framed effects. Feedback that I can remember is to film in a location where their is no noms coming from other class rooms. In the re-eddit I changed the sounds so that their was less background noise and more vocals coming from the people being interviewed. My opinion over this video is that this project was ok, I didn't like this vide as much as the first feature story.

Nathan contreras OP-ED

This projects is called an OP-ED witch is used in journalism and interviewing people. The best way to describe an OP-ED is, OP-EDs are the persons opinions about a subject. This assignment was to creation OP-ED about your personal opinion about raven 50 and provide pros and cons. this project only took two days because OP-EDs anent supposed to take a bunch of time they are really short and to the point. their where not that many challenges that I faced but one of them was when recording I did not really know what to say. I learned how to make a journalism story using OP-EDs to share an opinion over a subject witch was really neat because I notice them whenever I read a news article. Feed back that I was given is to look at the center of the camera instead of looking away from time to time and try to stay as perfectly still as possible. I tried to change these thing but I couldn't really because OP-EDs aren't supposed to have any B roll. My opinion over OP-EDs are that they seem pointless but they are important to sway opinions in news articles.

How did I spend my time in class

I would say that I spend my time in class to the most of the ability, because their are some students that sit in class and talk the entire hour waiting to las Minuit to do the the project. but I spin the entire hour working on the given projects. Sometimes that I would finish early I would get on my phone but thats only after the blogger and the videos are turned in. And I will also go over the edited video if I have allot of time left. To better a project it would be a benefit if you revise the blogger article or even re-edit some of the videos in class instead of doing nothing. My parents pay for the adobe software because they think e-comm is awesome. and because I have this they crate projects for me for example my dad recorded his golf outing so he wants me to edit the videos he took and he's going to show it at his next meeting.

Areas of strength

My strengths being a e-comm student is planning and producing because I can see in my head how I want a scene to look then I can make that scene using some editing on the computer. to maximize my strength I practice it at home like I said in the paragraph above. areas that need improvement are all of the simple things that add up towards the end and can end up making the video look bad, like transitions and coloring effects.

ONW sophomore addition

This project was a little confusing for me because I missed school for the first 3 days that we started to film the segments of the ONW now, my group even though I was not their said I was apart of that group. even though I didn't help my group film their was another group that needed to interview a band student so I volunteered to be interviewed. so at least I was able to be in the ONW now with was really cool. I learned through this that being apart of journalism type films is really complicated and their is allot more to it than it looks.

Summary

I loved most about this semester is using adobe premire pro to make edits to. video that I recorded witch was a really fin experience to do with my groups that Ive had all semester, looking forward tonic semester. something that I would change or do differently is make sure that the camera is taking in the sound because that is the 1 thing that I have had the most trouble with all year. Things that I learned was a little bit of everything. because their where effects that I did not know where possible in E9 but I learned the effects panel and the colors mostly. One goal That I would like to set for next semester is have less things that need to be edited on re-eddit day. Final thoughts that I have is that, on the first day of school we where told what this semester would be about and I thought that it sounded really lame and not interesting witch at the end I found that it was really fun and next semester might be even better.

Animation Final

Animation Final

This is an animation that I created using adobe after effects. To create the robot we had to draw out our characters on a pice of paper. Then we had to outline the drawing with something black and noticeable on a piece of paper like a Sharpe. then once we where satisfied with the drawing we took a picture of the robot and airdrop it to the computer, once I got the photo I had to move it into adobe photoshop and create a different layer for the head, both arms, both legs, and body. Then took the new composition into adobe after effect to animate the all of the new body parts to make it look like it's all one body witch took a lot of time and effort. I learned allot from this animation for example movements that the body parts make while walking, the usage of keyframes, dodge and burn, and the puppet pin tool are all very new tools and skills that I learned. I picked this project because I like the backgrounds and the scene that the robot is in, also in the animation the key framing makes the different compositions look like one body was really fun to do. my greatest strength during this animation are the key-framing skills because I could visualize how I wanted the robot to move. I have improved vastly on the animation skills that I have got from the first ball animation. I really lied working on this animation because it was very fun and interesting to see how to create a 2d animation that came from a piece of paper.

This is the inchworm animation witch was the second animation that we created. I learned allot from this animation an example would be the puppet pin tool at this time was very complicated and I couldn't really understand how to use it, but then after this animation I understood how to use the puppet pin tool and the puppet starch tool to animate parts of the worm. another thing that I learned was how to crate a good looking shadow effect coming off of the worm witch makes the worm look really good while moving cross the grass. I learned these two skills by trial and error mostly, like I would just play with the effects that I am applying and try to get the best look. some of my strength in this animation are the shading and the dodge and burn tool because there are really good shading and blur effects on the shadows witch I really like. I had used what I learned from thin animation on the robot one above because I added the dodge and burn to the body parts to make it pop and then I also aded the puppet pin tool to the laser effect at the end. something that I would change now is the puppet pin effects because in this animation you can tell where the pin tools where not used correctly.
I think that this animation was not a fun animation like the robot but this animation was critical to understanding how adobe after effects works.

This is  our first Maya project to build a castle using skills that we have learned from just the other day. almost everything visible is what I learned. I learned the extrude, shape, rotate, and lighting tools all in this one day. But the most important thing that I learned was how to move the shapes faces to create the look that I wanted witch was really something different from adobe after effects, to the way that I learned how to shape things was through trial and error to get a good looking cylinder/ tower. I piked this project because I love using Maya, I loved the way that the image I had in my head turned into a 3 dimensional space. strengths that I had during this animation was visualizing how I wanted to see the different parts come together in the end. I will later use what I learned to crate the poly thing witch really helped me because I had a greater understanding how Maya works. I personally think that Maya was a really fun thing to create and look towards it again.

This is the Poly thing that I mentioned above. I learned all about lighting in this project witch is very helpful for any animation to come in the future. besides the three point lighting I just got a greater understanding on how the mMaya software works I learned this through peers and the google docs slide that was given to the class. I picked this project because it looks amazing I love the way that the shadows look real and the lighting effects make the colors pop out and look real. I am going to use what I learned in other Maya projects to make the colors and the animation skills pop out and look really cool. this is probably the first project that I don't think that anything needs to change because I love the way it turned out. to conclude this animation final I would say that Maya is really fun and I want to do it some more in the future.

Story Animation

tell the story?

this is an animation about a bank robber that pulls off a bank heist and runs from the police using his really fast car, and great driving skills. this animation first starts off as the robber pull up to the bank in his car then it go to a shot from inside of the bank to show that there is nothing wrong (no money on the floor). Then a little suspense is added ass the screen shows onomatopieas like boom, crack, crash sounds. Then as the red lights flash the police officers chase the robbers in a really long car speed chase. The robber eventually outruns the police officers and brings the money back to his secret lair with money spread out everywhere.

how it went? what did you learn? and what obstacles did you overcome?

This was a really easy going animation because for me there was no problems with specific clips disappearing or becoming corrupted witch was a really good thing because this animation took up allot of time. There where only two problems that I had with the animation but it was becauseI could not get the keyframes correctly so the opacity was messed up in a couple shots. Things that I learned where better usage of the keyframes because learned how to use keyframes correctly ad make the animation look good. I also learned how to used the puppet pin tool because theist time that I used the puppet pin tool I really didn't really know what I was ding with the pin and starch tool. obstacles that I overcame where the puppet pin tool and storyboarding because it was a little difficult for me and the animation turned out better than my original thought.

Feature story #2

Feature story #2

What was the concept

Concepts that our group came up with was the 2017 ONW marching band. First off this was the decision because Miles and I where both in the band so this made it a little easy for us to find the people to interview and questions to ask them. Brady Stanfield is in our 3 hour and it just so happened to be that Brady is one of the drum majors, the other person that we decided to interview was Nabinder Dhillon because he is a fiend to everyone in the group. our that was that Nabinder actually being on the field could give a different view about being in the band.

What was the process

processes for making a feature story is, first we have to come up with our group and see if they know anything that would be interesting to film and talk about in this case our groups decision was the band. You also have to come up with 21 questions to ask the person that is being interviewed this way you have the interview planned out a little bit more. Story boards are used to see what the film will look like without recording, this way you actually save time because you know whats next. Roles are important to assign to the group members so that there are not 4 people all working on story boards.

My role

My main role was to be the story border and pre production person. something that I learned along the way was to remove the background sound because with Brady we recorded in the band hall, this seemed like it would be a really good place but people from debate where messing around and being really loud. during the second interview you could her band students practicing on the background witch was a little disruptive in the video.

Technically

Technical skills during this project where ok for everybody but me apparently because Adobe Premier Pro decided that it did not want to save and wanted to close down on me. plus whenever I was at home I was trying to make my voiceover but my mic cold not export things correctly and I had to use my phone before school started in the commons. I think that I was able to manage all of these disruptions in the final video tho.

Professionally

The group that I was in this time was really good at getting things done and communicating so that we could get done on time. project management for me was very important because on the first export my video did to save the voiceovers and then on the next day back to school I couldn't be in class because of the assembly, so I got put really far behind and have no idea on how I got caught up.

Different

something that I would do Different is make sure that Adobe Premier Pro saves before the computer logs off because that was a really big issue for me. another thing that I would do Different is magybenot wait tell last unit in the commons to record my voiceovers.

What I would do the same

I would like to keep the video locations and people interviewed the same because they both Nabinder and Brady gave really good explanations on why during the interviews. I also liked how this time my group was able to record and get all of the requirements done on time again. I also like how this group decided that we would all edit a different video because I like to be me and have my own vision in a video.

experiences that are learned

Some experiences learned from this project and I will defiantly keep it going onto the next project was the audio because this was a really big problem this time the other ting would be the time management and get things done on time.

Experiences drawn from this

I liked the time that I had to just start to type and let my thoughts out andante a news article. another experience that I got from this is that when typing you really have to focus on the words like grammar, spelling, and how it would sound if someone else was the reader.

General thoughts

I think that I would like to do this again but I would need people that would check ore edit it so that I can get a react good sounding news article that came from a video like this.

multiplane animation

multiplane animation

This video above is an animation of trees and a ballon using adobe photoshop and adobe aftereffects. this form of animation is called multilane because it uses multiple planed to create a 3D effect on the images. we first had to create our scene in adobe photoshop then move it into adobe aftereffect and began our animation. the multilane animation is used to crate a 3D effect with background layers. an example that Walt Disney created is when bambe is walking through the forest the background layers move at different speeds because things closer to you move faster than things farther away.

how did we make ours

Fist off we had to come up with an idea mine happens to be a forest just like Disney's movie. we had to take the normal screen size 1920 X 1080 and boosted it to 10000 X 1080, so that we could animate the trees moving at different speeds and with the boosted the screen length we where able to add more off screen so that I looks like the animation is moving. then we drew out the layers and added things like shading, burn, light, gradients, and details so that the animation would look more realistic and add more of a 3D effect to the animation.

ONW 1 in 2000

ONW 1 IN 2000

Our  group me, Mason, Miles, and Emma decided that even though they had an interesting summer I had a summer that would get the viewer viewers attention and that I had the most B role. This project ONW 1 in 2000 was a converse journalism about s group members summer.

Some things that our group had to prepare for before we even touched the camera for example, we first had to find who had the most interesting summer vacation, after this we create 21 questions that the interviewer would ask the interviewee, then we created roles for each person in the group, mason was the interviewer, I was the  interviewee, miles was the camera man, and Emma was dealt cinematographer.

I had the most interesting summer I was being interviewed. I learned allot from this role, for example I learned that moving around too much can have a really bad effect on screen after editing. I also earned that we need to check if the camera is picking up sound  before we start filming, we did not.

Things that I learned was that the camera needs to be white balanced and checked for sound before you start recording. also on adobe premier pro don't cut out that much because otherwise you will have a bunch of cuts and it looks really bad.

I could tell that our group had some trouble with the five guaranties because I noticed on the first day that miles likes to be the group leader and plan out everything, mason doesn't care that much, and Emma does not like to help as a team member. I asked Emma, and mason multiple times if they had any good ideas for location, questions, and better ideas. so this kinda pulled us together at moments when needed.

I liked how my video ended up at the end, but I would change my group members for some of the reasons listed above. something that I will make sure to do next time is check the white balance and make sure the audio is being recorded. this put our group 2 day behind on editing.

Something that I would keep the same is our groups work ethic because I would say that we were always trying to be on task and on time. we also worked together really well once we started to film and we where all on the same page, thats when we started to use the five guarantees.

This sounds really repetitive but things I defiantly would remember is white balance and audio. but then I know that it is important to remember the reflexion sheet so that can improve on the things I messed up on this time. for example one of the things that made my video look really bad the first time is all of the jump cuts and that I could've covered them up with b roll or graphics.

I liked how my re edit came out and I wish that I would have done it in the first place. or if we weren't missing audio I could've had more time to make the first video look really professional. I think that this was a fun project that really opend up my eyes on things that Ecomm students can create.

robot animation

overview-

our class project was to draw a "character" that has at least two legs and arms on a pice of paper. then after I created my robot we went over the edge of it with sharpie or something noticablel in adobe photoshop. then in adobe photoshop we cleaned up and added some details like dodge, burn, color, and folds to make the robot look 3d. then our final steps was to import the .psd file into adobe after effects and began to animate like the inch worm.

what I learned

I learned allot of new things with the this animation for example, most of my other animations do not have the. dodge and burn. I liked this two tools because they helped everything 3D, really cleaned up the animation.

what went we'll

things that went well where animation like on the final steps. I guess just because I have had allot of practice using adobe after effects. something that did not go well was adobe photoshop and designing the character mainly because I could not think of something to draw. then using adobe photoshop I had hard time cleaning up some of the black lines.

inch worm animation

over view of the project

our in class projects was to animate a inch worm move across the screen just like a normal worm. what we first had to do was crate the sky, ground, and worm using adobe premier pro. then once we crated where down with things like shadows, gradients, and touchup spots we moved the premier pro files of the worm into adobe photoshop so that it can be animated. we learned how to use new tools like the puppet pin tool, keyframes, and the burn tool so that we could animate the worm.

what I learned

I kinda mentioned new things that I learned above like getting a better understanding of the keyframes, puppet tool, and burn tool sir that we could touchup spots on the worm and make it look more of a 3d shape than circles moving across a flat plane. I would say that the newest thing that I learned would be the puppet pin tool and I also think that it was the mot important tool during this entire animation.

                                             how it went

I don't really know why but I had some trouble with this animation and I could not figure out why because I had to end up restarting the entire animation three times because adobe photoshop keeps on crashing. and the only other problem I ran into was the puppet pin tool was difficult and I did not like how to log during the animation but looks good at the end I guess.

Bouncing ball

what was the project

our class was to create a bouncing ball animation a using adobe after effects. what we first had to do was create the background, sky, grass, and a bouncing ball. we also made a project like this in e9 but this bonging ball was created in another adobe software and then moved int adobe after effects to be animated witch was very different and we had to learn allot of new things to help animate the ball look more realistic and bounce better.

things I learned

some things that I learned while using adobe after effects where almost the entire animation because its a kinda new platform for me because I have never animated using adobe aftereffects. the biggest thing that I learned how to do was using the keyframes for rotation, shape, and time. these where important to learn because in the animation there are things like when the ball is going down and it has to rotate and move at the same time, so key frames are very important to learn in after effects.

how'd it go for me

I think that my bouncing ball was really good because on day one we put together the ball on aftereffects and I thought that this was going to be a really weird looking animation and that mine was going to be bad compered to the other students but in the end mine was really good and I am happy with it.
